The thinning and bulging outward of the cornea, the eye\u2019s main optical structure, leads to astigmatism and myopia, retinal image distortion, and significant visual impairment.<\/p>\n<p>The implantation of intracorneal ring segments (IRS) &#8211; small curved devices made of a biocompatible polymer material &#8211; has been applied with great success for years. These implants, which are appropriately selected for size and precise location, normalize the shape of the cornea and improve vision.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"l-section wpb_row height_custom color_alternate\"><div class=\"l-section-h i-cf\"><div class=\"g-cols vc_row via_flex valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"vc_col-sm-12 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p>IRS are best used in the early or moderate stages of keratoconus. Depending on the degree of corneal protrusion, one or two segments may be implanted.
