Prof. Malyugin is a world-renowned authority in ophthalmic surgery. For his research and innovations, he was nominated to present the Fedorov Memorial Lecture inaugurated by the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (Paris, 2010). He has been awarded with Achievement Awards by the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (2015) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (2015).

He was awarded the Charles Kelman Gold Medal, inaugurated by both the Hellenic Society of Intraocular Implantology and Refractive Surgeons (HSIOIRS, 2015) and the Brazilian Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (BRASCRS, 2016). Among his prestigious awards are also included the J.W. Agarwal Gold Medal by the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS, 2015), the Gold Medal by the Moroccan Ophthalmology Society (SMO, 2016), M. Kritzinger Award by the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISCRS, 2017), J. Pearce Medal by the United Kingdom & Ireland Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS, 2017).

Boris Malyugin is the only ophthalmologist in the world who has been honored twice by presenting the Binkhorst honorary lectures at the congresses of the European and American Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in 2017.

Membership of professional societies:

Prof. Malyugin was elected President of the Russian Ophthalmology Society (ROS) in 2016. He is also Head of the ROS Committee on Cataract and Refractive Surgery (www.oor.ru).

In 2008, Boris Malyugin was elected as a member of the International Intraocular Implant Club (www.iiiclub.org), the longest-standing professional organization of leading researchers in the field of cataract surgery and intraocular lenses.

Since 2013, he has been a full member (Chair XLII) of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis (http://www.a-o-int.org/), which comprises 83 full and 34 honorary member chairs. All members are world-famous experts and authorities in the field of ophthalmology.

From 2011 to 2019, Boris Malyugin served as an elected board member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. At present, he serves as a member of the ESCRS Program Committee, Head of the Glaucoma Committee, and member of the Jury of the ESCRS Film Festival.

Prof. Malyugin is an active member of several major international professional associations: European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (www.escrs.org), American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (www.ascrs.org), American Academy of Ophthalmology (www.aao.org).
