Boris Malyugin, MD, PhD
Professor of Ophthalmology
Prof. Malyugin started his education under the mentorship of the outstanding Russian ophthalmologist Svyatoslav Fyodorov. In 1988, Boris Malyugin graduated with honors from the Medical Department of the Moscow Medical Stomatological Institute named after N.A. Semashko (today A. Evdokimov Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry). After completing his residency (1988–1990) and postgraduate research program (1990–1993) at the Eye Microsurgery Institute in Moscow, he defended his PhD thesis entitled “Surgical correction of astigmatism following penetrating keratoplasty”.
From 1994 to 1998, Boris Malyugin worked at the Department of Experimental Surgery of the Eye Microsurgery Institute, then headed by Prof. Fyodorov. In 1998, he was appointed Head of that Department, succeeding Prof. Fyodorov.
In 2002, he defended his Doctor of Medical Science thesis entitled “The system of cataract surgery with ultrasonic phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation”.
Over the course of his career, Boris Malyugin has continuously enhanced his professional skills and qualifications at leading international ophthalmology clinics in Great Britain, the USA, Germany and France.
Since 2001, Boris Malyugin has served as Deputy Director General at the S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institute, in which capacity he is responsible for Research & Development and Education programs.
